e-Invoice MyInvois integration for custom systems in Malaysia

LHDN's MyInvois system lets businesses submit e-Invoices through a web portal or an API. Businesses with their own ERP, POS or billing software can integrate the MyInvois API so invoices are validated automatically when issued. Macoin Technologies in Puchong, Selangor, builds MyInvois integrations for custom systems. Check LHDN's official page for the current implementation timeline that applies to your revenue band.

Do we need an API integration or is the portal enough?

The MyInvois portal suits businesses issuing a small number of invoices, entered manually. An API integration suits businesses that already generate invoices in software, because it submits them automatically and stores the validation result. The right choice depends on volume and whether manual re-entry is acceptable.

Count your monthly invoices and the staff time spent on each. Re-keying hundreds of invoices into a portal invites errors and delays. If your accounting package already supports MyInvois, enabling that feature may be all you need, with no custom work.

Custom integration is worth it when invoices originate in a system the accounting vendor does not cover, such as a custom booking platform, a membership app or an in-house billing tool. In those cases the invoice data already exists and only needs to be formatted, submitted and tracked.

How does a MyInvois API integration work?

Your system authenticates with LHDN, formats each invoice in the required structure, submits it and receives a validation result with a unique identifier. That identifier and the QR link must then be stored and shown on the invoice. LHDN publishes the SDK and API documentation for developers.

The integration needs correct taxpayer data for both parties, classification codes and tax details for each line. Most failures come from incomplete master data, not from the API itself. Clean your customer records, including tax identification numbers, before testing begins.

LHDN provides a sandbox for testing before production. Test normal invoices, credit notes, debit notes, refunds and self-billed cases that apply to your business. Also test what happens when the API is unavailable, so invoices are queued and retried instead of silently lost.

Keep a submission log that records the request, the response and the final status of every document. When a customer disputes an invoice or an auditor asks for evidence, that log answers the question quickly. It also helps finance spot rejected submissions before they become a compliance problem at month end.

Which dates and thresholds apply to us?

LHDN has implemented e-Invoicing in phases by annual revenue and has revised thresholds and dates more than once. Do not rely on a blog post for your deadline. Check LHDN's official e-Invoice page for the current timeline, exemptions and any interim relief that applies to your business.

Ask your tax adviser to confirm whether your business is in scope and from when. Implementation details such as consolidated e-Invoices and grace periods have changed during the rollout, and the official guidance is the only reliable reference.

Plan the technical work with enough margin before your date. Integration, testing in the sandbox and staff training take time, and the last weeks before a deadline are when developers and LHDN support are busiest.

Treat the timeline as one input to planning rather than the only driver. Even if your business is not yet required to issue e-Invoices, integrating early lets you test with real data and avoid a rushed project later. Your customers may also start asking for validated e-Invoices before your own deadline arrives.

What should we prepare before asking for a quote?

Prepare a list of the systems that issue invoices, sample invoices of each type, monthly volumes and the accounting package you use. Note any self-billing or foreign transactions. With that, a developer can estimate the mapping, testing and error handling instead of guessing.

Decide who owns the LHDN credentials and how they are stored. The integration should keep secrets out of source code and record every submission and response for audit. Those are operational requirements, not optional extras.

Macoin is flexible on scope. Some clients need only a connector from an existing system; others need invoicing built into a new platform. WhatsApp +60 18-263 7350 with your systems and volumes, and we will propose the smallest integration that meets the requirement.
